Blue Eagle Café, 1973
Remembered today mostly for its iconic neon sign, the Blue Eagle was a popular source of cheap eats and a reliable place to score dope for much of its 56 year existence.

Blue Eagle Café, 1973
Another awesome image from Greg Girard’s photo book, In the Near Distance (Kominek Books, 2010).
Most of this block, including the Blue Eagle, is now a pile of rubble as part of what must be the slowest demolition in Vancouver’s history to make room for condos.  The City recently ordered the developer to clean up the site, which is festering with rats, garbage, dust, and mould. The iconic Blue Eagle sign was acquired by the Museum of Vancouver in 2010 for its neon sign collection.
