Mayor Tom “Terrific” Campbell, Monday 18 March 1968
The Georgia Straight is reporting that Tom Campbell, Vancouver’s mayor from 1967 to 1972 and enemy of the people, died today at the age of 84.
Campbell was a real estate developer and anti-hippie crusader. His legacy includes the Gastown Riot, attempting to build a freeway that would have razed much of Gastown, Strathcona, and Chinatown, and going to war with the local hippie organ, the Georgia Straight.
In this clip Cambell discusses the problem of “lazy louts loitering.” Apparently he tied one on before the interview.
