Mounted policeman & demonstrators, Heatley Avenue, Tuesday 18 June 1935
Police chased demonstrators around the East End for about three hours, clubbing & gassing them after dispersing a protest march that was part of a waterfront strike. The incident became known as the Battle of Ballantyne Pier & was the first time a city police force used tear gas in Canada.
